I am participating as part of BOS. I will have a new installation – or a very heavily modified (and completely rreprogrammed) version of a previous installation if you want to look at it that way. I will also be showing some photography, my commercial motion graphics work and some (new to anyone in nyc, but quickly starting to feel very old looking at the date) live a/v recordings and vj material.

iphone wifi verison 24mb 3.5min
iphone mobile version 2mb 3.5min

This is a evolution of a previous installation i did using 2 laptops & 2 copies of gridpro – using it’s video analysis to control the delay of the live feed. the initial idea being, that there is a projection presented as a live video feed but the more you move the less real time the image is.

I built this using quartz composer so it could be turned into a fx plug for vdmx – or more likely making an fx plug from the image analysis part of it. theres some math interpolation i would like to try to see if i could get to be exponential not linear, but otherwise feels done. if i were to have it installed longer than a day, it would be nice to make it a more presentable as well.

The processing take live video feed. I used vade’s optical flow plug into detect motion (looks like the key to my use is the diffrencing of the new/old image. I do an over all average of the optical flow patch and feed it to a imgpixel to get a luminance value. this value controls a video dely and cross faded between the live image and delayed/frozen image. It also controls the vol, temp and pitch of a synthesizer instrument in garage band via midi.

got this email, if your in chicago check out this party at Rodan. I don’t know much more than what was in the email.

Hello to the Living,
Many of you may remember Elisa from the Buddy and Heaven Galleries, Version Fest and more.
//Living Sundays

=================================

Party for Pooper, May 12th between 10pm and closing at Rodan 1530 North Milwaukee.

Those of you who have been walking the streets of Wicker Park, Downtown, LA, Miami, and the world these past 7-8 years would have seen art on boarded up storefronts and vacant lots.

Yetis, eskimos, magical cicadas, owls, polar bears, kissers, bunny kissers….made out of painted wood or paper.

They are by Elisa Harkins (aka Pooper), long time curator at heaven gallery, 2006 Newcity Breakout Artist. You may even have seen her on TV in Utrecht for her digitally curated DVD and magazine “Digital Disobedients.”

Rodan is having a party in her honor.

Last April 4th, she was riding her bike home from downtown when she was struck by a van. She suffered a head injury, three days afterwards, doctors operated on her. She’s recovering beautifully and amazingly. Many have helped her these past weeks. Most of the proceeds from the evening will be donated for her living and hospital expenses. And donations will be accepted at the door.

Her artwork will also be in display!

See you then!

vid of me in installation

(from my proposal for the 2nd installation)
Description:
The installation consists of one projection of a live camera feed using nightshot/infrared mode converted to b&w. This feed is fed through long delay (est 1-1.5 min) and real time effects. Activity in the room / on the camera dynamically controls the length of the delay, amount of visual echo and volume of the sound. More motion turns up the effects and sound. Less motion turns down the effects and sound.

Here is an edited video showing the work I did for IBM’s Smarter planet exhibit within Epcot’s Innoventions center. It went live at the end of Jan 2010.

(the white flashes are the edit points, the full video was about 6min’s long and loops)

Video from IBM’s press release

Last night was the 3rd installment of the Red Hook Crit. I missed last year’s race – think (know actually) I was avoiding the rain. There seems to be a lot of momentum behind this race – reaching some middle ground between an alley cat race

- at night, no official class groups, roads only semi closed, location

and official event

- labeled unsanctioned not an alley cat, well planned, pre race meeting, rules requiring helmets, people with flags and reflective gear to control traffic, started on time.

Lots of press this year, big name sponsors. I can totally see this becoming a fully sanctioned race, thought it would probably take some work to keep the format the same, particularly the late night start. I think the bicycle film fest crew were working on doing a documentary about the race. so i would expect a bunch of press on the race.
